Permit Validity Periods
The permit type sets how long the permit stays valid after it is approved. The periods below are the recommended validity periods from the Referentiel; the actual end date is shown on the permit.
Recommended validity by type
The Type is locked once the permit is saved, so it also fixes the validity period — check it before you save (see Create a New Permit to Work).
All periods are counted from the approval date.
| Permit type | Recommended validity |
|---|---|
| Cold Work | 14 days |
| Hot Work — non-naked flame | 14 days |
| Hot Work — naked flame | 7 days |
| Confined Space Entry | 14 days |
| Breaking Containment | 14 days |
Tip — the date drives re-authorisation. When the validity period ends, the permit becomes Overdue (for Re-authorisation) and work cannot continue until it is re-authorised. Plan long jobs around the validity period of the type.
Shutdowns
Tip — shutdown extension. During major shutdowns of facilities or enclosed work sites, the permit validity can be extended. The extension is supported by a suitable risk assessment and formally authorised by the Operations Manager.
Routine and simplified permits
For simplified / routine permits, the duration is defined by the Operating Authority when approving, up to a maximum of 7 to 14 days depending on the type.

- A permit cannot continue past its validity without re-authorisation. (CR-GR-HSE-402)
